Though the caption says “Hand-finishing wood type,” the worker is actually finishing semicircular slabs out of which wood type would be cut. Notice the stack of slabs in the background.

The caption for the lower right image reads, “Note size of type compared to finisher’s hands.” You should also note that the 5s pictured are Cooper Black and appear to be around 72 line (12 inch), maybe larger. Because who doesn’t need a font or two of 72 line Cooper Black?
